Forest of Creation Begins! The New YUSEN LOGISTICS Begins Building Forest of Creation in Tateshinamachi, Nagano Prefecture

Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. (President: Shunichi Yano), having concluded a Forest Foster Parent (Forest of Creation) Contract with Tateshinamachi, Kitasakugun, Nagano Prefecture, in accordance with the Adopt-a-Forest program that Nagano Prefecture is implementing, and as a concrete measure in support of the government backed National Campaign for Beautiful Forests, has begun building the Forest of Creation.

The National Campaign for Building Beautiful Forests is a national campaign that aims to create forests that prevent global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide and that protect biodiversity, through the resolution of the delayed thinning of forests and promotion of various forms of forest building that look forward to 100 years ahead.

As a concrete measure in support of this, the Company concluded a Forest Adoptation (Forest of Creation) Agreement with Tateshinamachi, Kitasakugun, Nagano Prefecture, in accordance with the Adopt-a-Forest program conducted by Nagano Prefecture on Friday, October 1, 2010, and held a contract signing commemoration ceremony with Tateshinamachi at the Shirakabakougen General Tourism Center on Saturday, November 13, 2010.

There were about 90 people at the event, including Company employee volunteers and their families, as well as officials of Nagano Prefecture and Tateshinamachi. After the exchange of commemorative adoptation plates with Tateshinamachi Mayor Komiyama and the unveiling ceremony, the participants began work on the Forest of Creation by conducting forest thinning. The Forest of Creation activities will last for three years, until September 2013, with activities planned twice a year in spring and fall. The activities will involve growing trees, weeding, and thinning throughout the five hectare forest contracted.

The new Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd., which made a fresh start on October 1, 2010, is conducting carbon offset activities domestically and abroad, such as the continuation of afforestation activities in the Philippines and these Forest of Creation building activities, with the aim to fully support the tackling of environmental problems and contribute to society.
