PT. Yusen Logistics Indonesia obtained halal certification from the Assessment Institute for Foods, Drugs and Cosmetics, the Indonesia Council of Ulama (LPPOM-MUI) in August. We are now the first halal-certified Japanese logistics provider in Indonesia.
The Muslim population of Indonesia represents about 90% of Indonesia's roughly 250 million residents, meaning that the country has the world's largest number of the followers of the faith. Additionally, Indonesia is scheduled to enforce a law requiring halal compliance based on halal certification for foods, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals imported and distributed in Indonesia in 2019. With growing interest in halal-certified products in Indonesia, we obtained this certification so that the Muslim population could use products transported by Yusen with peace of mind.
The obtained certification covers the entire range of our operations in ocean and air freight export and import at Jakarta's airports and seaports. An example is the sole use of trucks that comply with halal certification standards for freight collection and transport. Staff trained in correct handling methods carry out operations following the designated procedures for halal-certified logistics services.
Yusen Logistics has been establishing a halal logistics service across Asia. In April 2015, Yusen Logistics became the first Japanese logistics provider to acquire halal certification in Malaysia for both transportation and warehousing operations, and in April of this year, we were the first logistics provider in Thailand to acquire the same certification at our Laem Chabang warehouse. We will continue to develop our global halal logistics services in cooperation with other ASEAN member nations as the only Japanese logistics provider offering halal logistics in Indonesia.
