Retail sector logistics typically comprises complex and time-sensitive operations – involving the handling of between 5000 and 12,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) a day through stock-picking and cross-docking operations. Our retail distribution centres hold up to 35,000 pallets and are controlled by sophisticated warehouse management system (WMS) and radio-frequency (RF) communications.
Ambient, chilled and frozen food and grocery
Contract logistics services for the food and grocery manufacturing/supply sector include multi-temperature warehousing and distribution, plus cross-docking. We handle ambient, chilled and frozen food and grocery merchandise, along with beverages, confectioney and fresh produce. We have experience in the design and construction of state-of-the-art ambient and chilled warehouses, plus cold stores, as well as the operation of multi-compartment, multi-temperature vehicles.
As well as conventional warehousing and distribution, we undertake vendor managed inventory (VMI) operations for automotive suppliers. This involves managing the inbound flow of components from Asia, receiving and sorting product, quality inspection and scheduling deliveries into customers’ factories. A number of overseas suppliers have also established their offices within our facilities. Additionally, we provide added-value services – such as finished product inspection and supplier- and customer-specific packing/containerisation.
We also operate factory warehouses inside customers’ plants. Here we control the flow of components to the client’s assembly line, as well as the retrieval of finished goods for transport to the external warehouse – and ultimate delivery to vehicle production plants across Europe and worldwide.
In addition to these operations in Bucharest, we operate automotive warehousing in Hunedoara County in the centre of Romania, and in Arad in the West of the country. We handle the collection of merchandise from automotive factories across Romania, and their consolidation in Arad before onward shipment by full truck load (FTL) services to other countries – including Slovakia, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
Our automotive warehousing operations are subject to stringent controls and regular audits – not only from our direct contractual partners, but also from their ultimate customers – the vehicle manufacturers.
Operating an open-access rail container terminal in Bucharest (BIRFT – Bucharest International Rail Freight Terminal), we are building a network for West-East and East-West domestic rail distribution within Romania and the region.
Our intermodal operations commenced in 2008 with the launch of block trains for import containers from the Asia Pacific region running between the Port of Constanta on the Black Sea coast and our own inland rail container terminal in Bucharest (BIRFT). Domestic container movements were later added – primarily for manufacturers within Romania wishing to connect to intra-EU trains.
Regular domestic block train services are now run between Constanta/Bucharest and major destinations across the country. We directly manage all steps in the chain – routinely achieving reliable services, with reductions in CO2 emissions of at least 40%, while cutting existing transport costs.
Operating one of the largest fleets dedicated to domestic distribution within Romania, we deliver over 300 truckloads daily for our clients to the major towns and cities in the country. Using a mix of own vehicles and long-term sub-contractor partners, our focus is on reliability, on time delivery in a cost effective manner.
In addition to domestic FTL and LTL distribution for the retail, fmcg and industrial sectors, we also operate an LTL network within Romania collecting components for the international automotive industry.
